Chair of Russian Federation Council's Committee on Foreign Affairs Konstantin Kosachev held negotiations with Georgian opposition lawmakers in Moscow on Monday to discuss the current tensions in bilateral relations between the two countries.
Kosachev told the opposition Alliance of Patriots of Georgia senators that Moscow is "upset and disappointed" by the recent events.
Head of the Georgian delegation, Giorgi Lomia, stated that the visit's aim was to "to be promotive of our peaceful cooperation, as partners, friends, brothers. This is the only goal. No one needs war, no one needs sanctions or confrontation."
The tensions began after Russian MP Sergei Gavrilov addressed the audience from the seat of the Georgian parliamentary speaker during the Inter-Parliamentary Assembly on Orthodoxy on June 20.
On June 21, Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a decree suspending flights to Georgia by Russian airlines starting from July 8, following the anti-government protests in Tbilisi.
