Around 2,300 protester took to the streets of Hamburg, Friday evening, to show their solidarity with Kurds and demand an end to Germany’s ban on the Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK), as well as condemning the attacks of the Turkish army in Northern Iraq. A mixture of Kurdish exiles, supporters of the creation of Kurdistan, anarchists and leftists walked from the SBahn station Sternschanze in Hamburg’s leftist borough to Hamburg’s Holstenglacis prison. Several anarchists lit flares during the march. The Kurdish supporters held speeches outside the prison, demanding the release of all political prisoners, specifically Mehmet Demir, a detainee with Kurdish roots currently being held at the site. The march was accompanied by banners pledging solidarity with those in so-called Western Kurdistan or ‘Rojava’, demanding to open the border to Syrian town of Kobane. The protesters chanted slogans including "Celebrate the international solidarity," "Fire and flames for the deportation centres” and "Give back the streets to the Nazis - stone by stone". The march was also an instrument for mobilising more people to stand against tomorrow’s right-wing march through Hamburg dubbed the "Day of patriots," which is currently unauthorised. The PKK is banned under German law
