The air conditioner was initially invented in 1902 by a young engineer for a Brooklyn printing house to solve moisture issues affecting color printing. This invention, which inadvertently controlled temperature, was later adopted by industries and, crucially, by cinemas on Broadway in 1925, enabling summer attendance. Its widespread use significantly contributed to the rise of the summer blockbuster, exemplified by the 1975 film "Jaws." Beyond comfort, the air conditioner profoundly changed human society by fostering an indoor lifestyle and leading to the decline of outdoor social spaces like the veranda. This shift represented a move from community-focused outdoor interactions to more private, climate-controlled environments.
