The 'Fontanka-SUP' stand-up paddle boarding (SUP) festival started from the embankment of the Moika River in St. Petersburg, Russia, on Saturday.
Participants from across Russia as well as from Finland, Cyprus, Belarus, Ukraine and Poland paddled along the rivers and canals of central St. Petersburg. They wore a variety of colourful costumes, dressing up as characters such as Asterix and Obelix, and also as lions and brides. Even dogs swam on the boards or alongside their owners.
According to the organisers, there were more than 1,300 registered SUP surfers this year; compared to 500 participants in 2018.
