23.03.2017
Anti-fascist activists marched through the Erfurt district of Marbach on Wednesday, to denounce the installation of several metre high wooden crosses on a site where a mosque is planned to be built earlier in the week.
The activists walked through the town, carrying pretend saws and tools and a banner reading
'The KKK cross must fall'.
Police were deployed to prevent any potential clashes between the protesters and the small group of right-wing activists who attempted to confront the demonstration.
Upon reaching the site where the mosque is to be built, the crosses were found to have been removed. Signs were erected on the field warning that access to the private land was strictly forbidden.
The planned mosque in Erfurt would be the first to be built in the state of Thuringia, and it has faced strong opposition in the state's parliament by the far-right Alternative for Germany (AfD) Party.
