Croatia: Police let refugees enter Opatovac centre in small groups

Police built fences around the entrance to the Opatovac Temporary Admission Centre, Tuesday in order to let newly arrived migrants into the transit camp. The migrants and refugees tried to tried to breach the police cordon to get inside the camp, however authorities only gave access to families and people with children first. Hundreds of arrivals are still stranded at the camp's gates, while hundreds more continue to arrive from the direction of Bapske village where refugees discovered new passage from Serbia to Croatia. A total of approximately 34,900 migrants have entered Croatia, 1,630 of whom have so far found shelter at the Opatovac camp. Officials estimate that a total of 5,000 refugees have headed to Opatovac in search of a roof over their heads. The largest influx of migrants and refugees is expected in the Tovarnik and Ilok areas.
