EU sanctions against Russia are not “the tool needed to solve this problem” of the Ukrainian conflict, Slovenian Foreign Minister Karl Erjavec said at a meeting with his Russian counterpart Sergei Lavrov in Moscow on Tuesday.
Erjavec said Slovenia has “a very flexible policy” on Western sanctions against Russia. He remarked that “sanctions in economic terms have not brought any sizable results to any side”. Both diplomats noted that Russia and Slovenia could boost trade cooperation despite the EU sanctions.
Lavrov stressed that the “external environment influences exchanges, but the potential of cooperation is such that the volume can be increased even in current conditions”. Karl Erjavec noted that Ljubljana’s “goal is to reach two billion euros in trade turnover with Russia”.
Numerous countries in Asia, Europe and North America imposed sanctions on Russia over its reintegration of Crimea.
