Hundreds of protesters, including Siemens employees and members of the IG Metall Berlin Union, marched in the streets of Berlin on Thursday, to protest the job cuts announced by the German multinational conglomerate company Siemens.
Protesters took off from Nonnendammallee, before reaching Jakob-Kaiser-Platz, where speeches were held.
The demonstrators were seen marching with banners reading "470 jobs fall victim to the future" and "We could be the 470."
Helmut Kleebank, the mayor of the Spandau district, was present on site to show support and said that "today is about the colleagues and giving them courage for the negotiations on Monday and Tuesday, to give them good conditions to stop the restructuring of Siemens."
Siemens reportedly announced earlier this year that 470 workers from the "Gas and Power" branch will be laid off, following the company’s decision to downsize.
