Russian President Vladimir Putin congratulated Russian marine officers and sailors in St. Petersburg, Sunday, to mark the occasion of Russia's Navy Day.
Together with Russian Defence Minister Sergei Shoigu, Putin boarded the military boat, Seraphim of Sarov, and visited mariners on 16 warships, submarines and support vessels and congratulated their crew members.
This year, the Russian Navy's second frigate of the Project 11356, patrol ship Admiral Essen, took part in the Navy Day parade for the first time, as it joined the Russian fleet on June 7.
Earlier in the day, Putin visited the legendary Aurora cruiser that helped to spark the October Revolution of 1917. The Aurora entered service with the Russian Navy in 1903. It is most famous for firing the shot that initiated the storming of the Winter Palace, which marked the beginning of the October Revolution in 1917.
