Finland: Hundreds rally against Islam and EU refugee policy

10.09.2016
Around 500 local citizens took to the streets of Helsinki to protest against the European refugee policy as well as Islam’s presence in Finland, on Saturday.
The demonstrators were seen holding Finnish flags and banners reading "Sexual criminals out of the country!" and "Close the borders!"
While addressing the crowd, Somali-born Swedish activist, Mona Walter, stated that "Muslims say and our politician say that Islam is a religion of peace. That is a lie, is a lie, is a lie that we have been fed."
The Finnish Immigration Service announced in May that the security situation in Afghanistan, Iraq and Somalia had significantly improved; therefore asylum seekers who could not prove to be individually at risk could return to their countries of origin.
Finnish authorities have rejected more than 75 percent of the asylum applications from Iraq.
Around 32,000 migrants and refugees have arrived in Finland in the past year, while the Finnish government has sought to tighten its immigration policies.
