23.07.2015
New York state moved on Wednesday to raise the minimum wage for fast-food workers to $15 an hour in New York City.
Wage increases should affect New York City residents by the end of 2018 and in the rest of the state by mid-2021.
The New York Wage Board voted unanimously on the pay increase, which would affect some 180,000 workers statewide.
New York state Governor Andrew Cuomo publicly championed raising minimum wage to address income inequality across the nation in recent months.
As part of the national "Raise the Wage" campaign, Cuomo held a rally in New York City in May bringing awareness to the financial struggles of fast-food employees and the vast wealth gap between themselves and their CEOs.
