Scientists from the Urals Federal University presented meteorites and new fragments of the Moon and Mars discovered during their expedition to Antarctica in Yekaterinburg, Sverdlovsk region, Friday.
According the Professor at the Physics and Technology Institute of the Urals Technological University, Viktor Grahovski, "the most exotic findings are the new fragments of the Moon and Martian rocks."
He also added that one of the most important results of the expedition is the realisation that lots of material could be found "just on the planet Earth," which may give "a new understanding" of the origin of the Universe and the future of the planet.
The Russian expedition to Antarctica took place between December 20 and January 10, during which the vast territory was examined. The expedition focused on the area of Queen Maud Land, located some 100 kilometres (62 miles) away from the Russian station of Novolazarevskaya, and managed to gather over 300 rock samples for further research.
