NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg and Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko held a joint press conference during the NATO summit in Warsaw, on Saturday.
During their respective speeches, both Stoltenberg and Poroshenko discussed the close relationship between NATO and the Ukraine. Poroshenko announced, "We agreed to launch a process which will allow Ukraine to receive a status enhance opportunity partner. This status envisioned deepened security relations and ensured stronger interoperability with the NATO allies. This decision demonstrates that NATO stands firmly for Ukraine."
Stoltenberg used his speech to criticise Russia's position on Ukraine, saying, "We do not, and we will not, recognise Russia's illegal and illegitimate annexation of Crimea." He went on to claim that NATO would "condemn Russia's deliberate destabilisation of Eastern Ukraine."
The summit took place in Warsaw on the 8th and 9th of July. Stoltenberg announced the next summit will be held in 2017 in Brussels, at the new NATO headquarters.
