The main prosecutor of Paris Francois Mollins gave a press statement at Palace of Justice in Paris, Thursday, following an incident that involved a minivan rammed into a police vehicle on Paris' Champs-Elysee on June 19.
Speaking to the press Mollins stated that the weapons, which has been discovered in the vehicle "testifies the magnitude of the desired terrorist action which, if it had succeeded, could have had dramatic human consequences".
He said that the attacker has sent several letters to his relatives, where he admitted that "he had supported the Mujahideen group for defending Islam and Muslims for years. Moreover, the suspect had pledged allegiance to Abu Bakr al- Baghdadi, practiced sport shooting for his preparation for the jihad and has been about to join Islamic State (IS, formerly ISIL/ISIL) in Syria.
According to Mollins, the attacker has been in Turkey for his professional [fighting] activity. The letter, mentioned by Mollins also proved the attempts of reaching the Iraqi-Syrian territory in February-March, 2015. Mollin added that the sports shooting activity could be linked to the preparation of the attack which he committed," concluded he.
