Dozens of Lithuanian occultists ran barefoot over burning coals just outside of Vilnius on Friday, one of the final stages in graduating from the country's School of Witches. Burning incense, chanting incantations, and waving their arms in an eerie fashion, Lithuania's warlocks and witches gathered at an abandoned gun foundry on the outskirts of the capital to take part in the pagan ritual. Kicking off the initiation ceremony with a ritual fire and sword scanning rite, the group whooped and cheered as their occultist companions ran over hot coals before receiving a diploma pronouncing them as fully qualified witches and wizards. The graduation ceremony has only been practised for the past five years, amid a recent revival of Lithuania's pagan traditions, especially among younger people. It is believed that around 100,000 people were tortured in wider-Lithuania from 1623 during 129 years of the Inquisition, many of them alleged witches.
