Russia: Putin pays respects to victims of 2011 Lokomotiv plane crash

Russian President Vladimir Putin accompanied by acting Governor of the Yaroslavl Region Dmitri Mironov laid flowers at a memorial dedicated to the victims of the plane crash which killed 37 members of Lokomotiv hockey team, in Yaroslavl on Saturday.
The junior hockey team alongside President of Lokomotiv Yaroslavl Hockey Club Yuri Yakovlev were also present during the ceremony. The memorial was opened on November 7, 2013, and consists of 37 hockey-sticks in a form of a bird wing.
The Yakovlev Yak-42, which was carrying 37 players and coaches of HC Locomotiv and eight crew members to Minsk, crashed on September 7, 2011 near Yaroslavl. The only survivor of the crash was the flight engineer Alexander Sizov. Experts from the Interstate Aviation Committee found that the accident occurred due to an inadvertent pressing of the brakes during take-off.
