Opposition Senators to Patriot Act Plan Aggressive Procedural Obstacles

The National Security Agency faces a temporary pause in its ability to collect bulk phone records amid a stand-off on Capitol Hill.
With the Patriot Act and its provisions set to expire that legally allow the collection of such data, Senator Rand Paul delivered a 10-and-a-half hour speech yesterday in filibuster on the Senate floor.
Other opponents of the bulk collection programs have planned further procedural obstacles to block it's renewal by week's end.
Republican majority leader Mitch McConnell has filed motions to end the debate over the USA Freedom Act which seeks to replace the Patriot Act.
