UK: Police use force to keep rival migrant protesters apart in Folkestone

Activists from the "Folkestone United" group held a demonstration in solidarity with migrants who try to gain access to Britain through the Channel Tunnel, in Folkestone on Saturday. They were met by two counter-demonstrations by the right-wing "Britain First" and "English Defence League" (EDL). Britain First activists attempted to square up to the pro-migrant activists, but were prevented from getting close by police who pushed them back over the road. Folkestone United activists demonstrated in front of the Eurotunnel terminal in Folkestone on the southern English coast. They called for a more humane discourse on migration, stating their unhappiness with the "zoological" terms that are being used to describe migrants, noting that even British Prime Minister David Cameron had referred to them as "swarms." Leader of Britain First, Paul Golding, said that his group had come out for two reasons, firstly to show their "opposition to mass immigration into our small overcrowded country." The second reason, said Golding, was that his organisation was there "to oppose this gaggle of left-wing traitors across the road." Over 1,500 migrants stormed the Channel Tunnel in an attempt to reach the United Kingdom earlier this week, leading to the death of a man of Sudanese nationality. The man's death brings the total number of migrants killed trying to reach the UK from Calais to nine since June.
