15.10.2016
German Chancellor Angela Merkel addressed a conference of the youth wing of her Christian Democrat Union (CDU) party in the western German city of Paderborn, on Saturday.
Speaking on the development of the African countries, Merkel stated that "according to the latest calculations, the population in Europe has decreased in 2015, and there [in African countries] the total population has doubled. That means that less than 500 million Europeans will potentially accrue to not 1.3 billion rather than to 2.6 billion."
Merkel continued, "when all these young people have a smartphone but don't have opportunities for self-development in their own countries, than not only Europe has a problem, the whole world has a problem."
Moreover, commenting on the development of the German labour market, Merkel stressed that "Germany does quite well." "After a discussion with a Federal Employment Agency I can say that 2.7 million new jobs have been created in the recent five years," she added.
