US President Barack Obama and Chinese President Xi Jinping formally committed the two countries to the Paris climate agreement ahead of the G20 in Hangzhou, China, on Saturday.
The US president said that by joining the Paris agreement, the two countries were demonstrating their "shared commitment to climate change."
The G20, running from September 4 to September 5, is an international summit for the governments and representatives of the 20 major economies to discuss fiscal policy and international financial stability. Created in 1999, the forum's first formal leaders' summit was held in 2008 in Washington, D.C., with the conference moving east this year as China solidifies itself as one of the world's leading economies.
