We are still losing the race. Climate change is still running faster than what we are. We still have subsidies to fossil fuels, we still have coal plants being built. We still have many things that are not happening and should happen, or things that go on happening and shouldn't be happening anymore. But there is a change in momentum. I feel there is a change in momentum. And largely, this change in momentum was due to your initiative and to the courage with which you have started this movement, and made this movement from a small movement in front of a Parliament, to, I believe, it was a Swedish Parliament, no? Some time ago, into millions around the world saying clearly, not only that they want change, not only that decision makers must change, but that they want them to be accountable. And this question of accountability is essential."

Swedish teenage activist Greta Thunberg and other youth leaders gathered at the United Nations headquarters in New York City on Saturday to participate in the first-ever UN Youth Climate Summit.
The summit took place one day after millions of students took to the streets all over the world to demand governmental action on climate change.
"Yesterday, millions of people across the globe marched and demanded real climate action, especially young people. We showed that we are united and that we, young people, are unstoppable," said Thunberg.
Listed as a keynote listener, UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres praised the initiative of the young activists to start a global movement to stop climate change. "This change in momentum was due to your initiative and to the courage with which you have started this movement, and made it from a small movement in front of a Parliament […] into millions around the world," he said.
Thunberg will address the United Nations General Assembly on September 23.
