Russian President Vladimir Putin urged the country's Security Council to "proactively respond to the risks and threats" to define a new economic security strategy, in a meeting of the body in Moscow on Wednesday.
Putin noted "we see deep, large-scale processes happening in the world: new centres of global economic growth are forming, competition for markets, technologies and capital increases with each passing year."
The Russian leader continued, stating our "fundamental response is to build our own economic potential. Not to be closed from the world economy but to improve our efficiency."
The president continued, urging the Security Council to deliver an "economic growth rate higher" than that of the rest of the world. To achieve this, Moscow would have to be "flexible, to be the first one to respond to the global changes and to participate in the formation of new promising markets," added Putin.
The president is reportedly scheduled to sign the decree on the Russia's new economic security strategy by March 1, 2017.
