Швеция: Анти-емиграционен простест атакува емиграционната политика в дъждовния Стокхолм

Some 200 anti-refugee protesters gathered in Stockholm, Tuesday, to decry Sweden’s migration policy as the European refugee crisis spirals. Organised by the AVGA, or ‘Resign,’ protest group, figures were expected to be at 4,000 during the demo, but numbers dwindled due to poor weather. The protest was organised to conincide with the reopening of the Swedish parliament on Tuesday, with demonstrators calling for the government to resign after introducing legislation last year that allows limited numbers of refugees from war-stricken countries to be hosted in the Scandanavian country. Large numbers of refugees, mainly Syrians fleeing the war and the so-called Islamic State (IS, formerly ISIS), are attempting to reach northern countries of the European Union. Although most head to Germany, Sweden is also a favoured destination. Public outcry over the handling of over 500,000 migrants and refugees arriving in Europe this year has forced EU leaders to discuss the politico-economic union’s response to the current crisis. Member states have agreed to resettle an estimated eight percent of the number of refugees arriving in Europe, with leaders consenting to accommodate just 40,000 who have arrived in Greece and Italy. Brussels is yet to agree on redistributing higher figures, with member states rejecting European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker’s suggestion that the EU spread 120,000 refugees within its borders.
