NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg commented on NATO-Russia relations following the NATO-Russia council at the alliance's headquarters in Brussels, Wednesday.
Speaking at a press conference following a meeting with Russia's Permanent Representative to NATO Alexander Grushko, Stoltenberg said it was a "useful" meeting despite grave differences over the crisis in Ukraine.
Stoltenberg went on to comment on air safety measures over the Baltic Sea that had been proposed by Russia, promising that NATO would study the proposal "carefully." Russia's proposal comes after various encounters between Russian fighter jets and NATO vessels in the Baltic Sea.
"We are transparent on our activities and our presence," Stoltenberg stated, adding "For instance, we briefed on the four battalions we will have in the eastern part of our alliance in the three Baltic countries and Poland. The US also briefed on their presence which will complement the NATO presence."
He concluded his statement by assuring those in attendance that "the military lines of communication, they are open."
