Around 200 protesters rallied in front of the German Embassy in Ankara, Friday, to protest against the German parliament's recent decision to recognise the World War I killings of Armenians by Ottoman forces as a genocide.
Protesters hurled eggs at the embassy's wall and gate however none of its employees were hit. A deployment of police were called to separate the group from gaining access into the building.
During and after World War I, ethnic Armenians were displaced, deported or placed in concentration camps by authorities in the Ottoman Empire, now modern day Turkey. Between 600,000 and 1.8 million people are believed to have died during the period. However, the Turkish government reject the allegation that these deaths amounted to genocide.
