Thousands of pro-independence protesters blocked the main streets of Barcelona on the fifth day of unrest during a general strike called by pro-independence unions, with some of them pelting police officers and their van with rubbish.
Police in an attempt to take control of the situation is cordoning the access to the streets where the rallies are being held.
Footage shows angered protesters throwing rubbish and paint at the police and hiding behind barriers to protect themselves after officers arrested two young activists.
The protests were sparked by Monday's Supreme Court ruling that saw nine separatist leaders receive prison sentences in connection with Catalonia's 2017 independence bid.
