The economy of Russia's Sakhalin region is in good shape, while showing no signs of crisis, the region's governor Oleg Kozhemyako told President Vladimir Putin during a meeting in Moscow, Monday.
"During a year of work we managed to analyse the situation, to identify problems, to confront them, and to determine the main directions of development of the Sakhalin Region for the next five-year period," Kozhemyako stated.
He added "We are implementing projects related to the development of dairy and broiler production, greenhouse farming, and grain elevators," while citing tourism another important factor for improving the region's economy. "We have the 'Mountain Air' ski complex. At its base we are now creating advanced slopes to train the Russian national team for the next Olympic games in South Korea," Kozhemyako concluded.
Oleg Kozhemyako was appointed Governor of the Sakhalin region by Vladimir Putin on March 25, 2015, after his predecessor Alexander Khoroshavin was arrested on charges of corruption.
