Argentinian President, Mauricio Macri, urged France to be more flexible on agriculture in talks between the European Union and Latin America when he visited German Chancellor, Angela Merkel, in Berlin, Tuesday.
Macro said “we need in this that France relaxes its position," in reference to trade talks, which are ongoing between the EU and Mercosur, the sub-regional block consisting of Argentina, Brazil, Paraguay, Uruguay and Venezuela.
Merkel stated that "this will be a complicated subject because Argentina has its strengths", but you cannot say that just because they (the talks) are difficult they shouldn't be held."
The German chancellor also mentioned that according to her, the EU attitude towards the trade talks on Mercosur haven't changed after the Brexit vote.
Earlier in the day, Macri was welcomed with military honours by German President Joachim Gauck at Bellevue Castle, Berlin. It is Macri's first visit to Germany since he was elected in 2015.
