Germany: Causes of the refugee crisis must be better addressed - Merkel

Speaking at her party youth wing organisation’s event in Berlin on Friday, German Chancellor Angela Merkel said that Germany had managed to reduce the number of refugees arriving in the country by ensuring better conditions for migrants in countries closer to their point of departure.
“We have reduced the number of people arriving to us. We have done something in Jordan, in Lebanon, in Turkey, so that the refugees who arrive to those countries are better off, and we help them; but, however, a lot remains to be done,” she said.
Talking about the reasons why people are fleeing Syria, she called for Russia to use its “responsibility over the Assad regime” to ensure a lasting and peaceful resolution to the civil war.
