Russian President Vladimir Putin met with the President of the Republic of Abkhazia Raul Khajimba in Novo-Ogarevo, Thursday, to strengthen bilateral relations between both countries.
Putin praised "the special nature" of the ties between the two countries stating that "our legal basis is becoming more solid and practical cooperation is developing in all areas: in the economy and security."
The Abkhazian President told the Russian President that since their last meeting in May, "a significant number of changes occurred in the relations between our countries," noting however, that there still remains some "security, economic and social issues which are yet to be resolved."
Khajimba pointed towards the signing of "a number of sectorial agreements in the development of the main contract" on strategic partnership, adding that the development of relations "should be intense and it will be further reinforced."
The Republic of Abkhazia is a partially recognised Republic on the eastern coast of the Black Sea, that was once part of Georgia, but separated following a short war involving Russia, in August, 2008.
