French Minister of the Interior Bernard Cazeneuve gave a press conference on the recent violence in Marseille at the Ministry of Interior in Paris, Sunday, stating that those involved in hooliganism would be punished, and that limits would be put on alcohol. UEFA has since warned that Russia and England would be disqualified from the Euro 2016 if there was further violence.
Regarding the sale of alcohol the French official said that "the sale, consumption and the transportation of alcoholic beverages the day before and the days of the match, and at the days of the fan zone openings, for marked perimeters" will be prohibited.
On Sunday, UEFA opened disciplinary proceedings against the Russian Football Union after clashes erupted between Russian fans and England supporters in Marseille's Old Port district ahead of their game the day before. A major incident took place at the stands of the Stade Velodrome, after several Russian fans broke into the neighbouring English zone after the final whistle.
Over the course of three days, 35 people have been injured in clashes between football fans in Marseille for the Euro 2016 championship.
