22.02.2016
Hundreds of protesters rallied outside the Palace of the Republic in October Square in Minsk, Monday, against a decree from President Alexander Lukashenko on new import regulations, which critics claim has become an impediment to their businesses.
Protesters denounced the new regulations and demanded the resignation of the prime minister and minister of finance. Enterpreneurs say that their business will become unprofitable under the new regulations.
Business people are angry with Lukashenko after he issued Presidential Decree No. 222, which prohibits the sale of imported goods without the good's country of origin being known. The decree came into force on January 1 and has reportedly caused the closure of many small businesses as they struggle to obtain goods that meet the new regulations.
