President of the Eurogroup Jeroen Dijsselbloem said he was "very negatively surprised" by Greece's decision to call a referendum, as he arrived at the Eurogroup meeting in the Justus Lipsius building in Brussels, Saturday. Greece has "closed the door on further talks where the door was still open in my mind", he added. In the Saturday's Eurogroup meeting, the members are expected to talk about future consequences of the referendum. Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras has called the bailout plan proposed by its creditors, the International Monetary Fund (IMF), European Central Bank (ECB) and European Commission "unbearable" and called for a referendum to let the Greek people decide whether to accept it or not. Voutis praised the government's decision on the referendum saying it "will strengthen the country's position." The referendum is scheduled for July 5. The Greek parliament is currently debating whether or not to ratify the vote. The finance ministers of the eurozone are also meeting to discuss whether to extend the bailout, which expires Tuesday, until after the referendum has been held. Initially, June 30 had been set as the deadline for Greece's €1.62 billion ($1.76 billion) debt repayment to the IMF. If the country fails to meet the deadline, which following Friday night's referendum revelation could be likely, it could face default and exit from the eurozone.
