31.05.2016
Thousands of trade unions members, anti-austerity protesters, and public sector workers marched through the centre of Brussels on Tuesday, protesting against a series of proposed labour law reforms. The demonstrations come as nationwide transport strikes erupted all over the country.
The protesters marched through downtown Brussels, ending with a large rally near Brussels Central Station, with participants letting off flares. Members of the General Confederation of Liberal Trade Unions of Belgium (ACLVB/CGSLB) and the Confederation of Christian Trade Unions (CSC/ASV) were prominent among the demonstration, with transport workers, healthcare employees, and metalworkers just some of those joining the rally.
The demonstration hit Brussels as train drivers entered their sixth consecutive day of being on strike, causing transport delays and cancellations in Wallonia, Brussels and Flanders.
