Around 120 artillery shells from World War II were blown up in a controlled explosion in the Voronezh region, Friday. The arsenal was located near the village of Olhovatsky, where the Red Army waged fierce battles against Nazi forces between 1942 and 1943. German, Soviet, Italian and even US armaments have been often discovered in the region. According to demolition expert Vasily Turishchev, the US artillery shells were bought by the Nazis through Belgium and later used in battles around the Don river. Around 4000 shells are detonated in the Voronezh Region every year, according to the Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations.
