Hundreds of Brazilians took to the streets of Sao Paulo to protest against President Michael Temer's new education reforms, Friday.
Protesters chanted and drummed as they marched, and held a large banner reading "Against Pec241", in reference to name of the education reform bill.
Protester Flo Rido denounced Temer for leading a 'coup' against former president Dilma Rousseff, stating "I think the most important thing is to highlight the idea of the coup, a coup against democracy, a coup made by media."
The reforms were announced by Temer's administration on 20th September, the reforms propose to increase the compulsory hours spent at school and reduce the obligatory subjects studied to Portuguese, English and Mathematics granting students the flexibility to choose the rest of their curriculums. The proposals have been criticised for not including subjects like the arts, physical education, philosophy or Spanish in the schedule.
