Russia could play "a very important role" in solving the Israel-Palestine crisis, Palestinian Foreign Minister Riyad al-Maliki stated during a press conference with his Russian counterpart Sergei Lavrov, in Moscow, Wednesday.
"Obviously, you know, we do feel and we do believe that Russia could play a very important role in such effort. That's why we are here: in order to really exchange views with the Russian leadership and with my friend Sergei Lavrov and to see what could be done in such matter," al-Maliki said.
Lavrov in turn stated that "We consider it is important to use the potential of the Middle East Quartet that may find a way out of the current dead end. Now we are working with the partners from the Quartet on a report with relevant recommendations. We hope that this report will be an important contribution to the efforts to revive the peace process."
The meeting between the two foreign ministers comes after the June 3 talks in Paris at which 29 states aimed to re-establish negotiations between Israel and Palestine.
