A team of American scientists were horrified to discover a sea turtle with a 12 cm (4.7 inch) plastic straw in its nostril on the Costa Rica coastline. A video showing how the animal bled and suffered as they removed the straw was released on Wednesday. Field biologist Christine Figgener and a research team at Texas A&M University found the endangered Olive Ridley sea turtle with what they first thought was a worm into its nose. As they started to remove it, however, they discovered it was a straw. The scientists said they turtle stopped bleeding after the removal and was released back into the ocean after a short time of observation. Footage courtesy of Ocean Defender Hawaii
