Nepalese police officers celebrated the second day of the 'Yama Panchak' festival devoted to the god of death, at the Central Police Dog Training Centre in Kathmandu, Tuesday. The second day of the event is called 'Kukur Tihar' when dogs are worshipped as protectors of the home. Officers placed costumes and garlands of flowers on dogs and offered the canines delicious food. According to non-profit animal welfare and rights organisation 'Animal Nepal', this is a "very important festival" and it shows the "importance of dogs for our lives." The five-day festival 'Yama Panchak' is celebrated each year among Hindu communities in Nepal. The festival is considered to be of great importance in Nepal as it shows reverence to the god of death and animals such as the crow, dog, cow and ox.
