At least nine people have been killed after two ships caught fire in the Kerch Strait on Monday, according to the Russian Federal Agency for Maritime and River Transport.
Fourteen people have been rescued from the scene, the agency says. The incident is thought to have occurred after one of the ships got struck with an explosion, caught fire and then spilled over to another vessel.
According to preliminary information, both vessels were carrying liquefied natural gas (LNG).
The ships, which were both sailing under a Tanzanian flag, reportedly had 31 crew members in total on board at the time of the incident. The sailors include Turkish and Indian citizens, according to the maritime transport authority.
A rescue operation is still underway in the strait.
