Counsellor in Justice of Russian Prosecutor General's Office Mikhail Alexandrov stated that financier William Browder is suspected of involvement in the death of investment fund lawyer Sergei Magnitsky as well as three other people, speaking at a briefing in Moscow on Monday.
Alexandrov said it is “very likely that they were killed in order to eliminate the accomplices, those who could give incriminating testimony against William Browder.”
“This version is very likely, since Magnitsky was one of Browder’s closest associates and he had a motive for his physical elimination in order to conceal his involvement in previously committed crimes,” Alexandrov added.
Alexandrov also said that the “expert analysis of biological materials obtained from Magnitsky’s corpse” suggests that he had “lifetime signs of chronic poisoning with toxic water-soluble inorganic aluminium compound which was orally delivered to his body.”
Counsellor in Justice of Russian Prosecutor General's Office Nikolai Atmoniev added that that Browder would be “put on the international wanted list for the purpose of detention and subsequent extradition.”
Official Representative of Russian Prosecutor General's Office Alexander Kurennoi expressed his hope to receive “an adequate, impartial and legal assessment of the information” that “have been twice brought to Jeff Sessions” who until recently served as the Unites States Attorney General.
Browder’s attorney Alexander Antipov told TASS news agency that he will appeal the decision to open a criminal case against his client.
Antipov said that two months ago, he had sent legal inquiries to the General Prosecutor’s Office as well as to the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation, and “received answers that Browder is neither a participant nor a defendant in any new criminal cases.”
Antipov told RIA Novosti that he had heard about the new accusations from the media, despite asking for a permission to attend the briefing.
