Women's social and political organisations, alongside unions and student groups, marched in Buenos Aires, Friday, demanding an end to violence against women on the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women.
Protesters gathered outside the Legislative Palace before marching towards Plazo de Mayo to warn against the increase in femicide in the country and to decry institutional violence and gender discrimination. A group of protesters also reenacted a scene of violence against women.
The National Registry of Women Femicides of the Latin American Matria (MuMaLa) reported a total of 271 femicides in the country between the January 1 and November 20, with one woman killed every 30 hours on average. In October alone, the month with the highest number of gender violence deaths, a woman was murdered every 20 hours.
