Marches for Dignity" C/U S Lavapies subway station with banner holding reading (in Spanish): "We don't want to survive" Thousands of people marched through the streets of Madrid on Thursday as part of the "March for Dignity" movement to rally against the "troika style" economic policies of the government. Protesters carried banners reading "Bread, work, housing and dignity" and rallied from Sol to Lavapies Square through the centre of the city. The demonstrators also rallied against unemployment, fracking, the TTIP and NATO, and demanded social and labour rights, quality education, and justice for the victims of Franco's dictatorship. Throughout the day, demonstrations and marches took place in over 40 Spanish cities. Neither the organisers nor the authorities reported any incident. The "Marches for Dignity" movement came about in 2014 and has since been holding mass demonstrations against what they believe is a "illegitimate government".
