SOT, Boris Johnson, UK Prime Minister: "We've all come to the realisation now, I think, that we, collectively, have to do better if we are going to avoid catastrophic climate change, loss of habitat, destruction of reefs, loss of forests, desertification, defoliage, acidification of the seas. I'm sounding like an old testament prophet of doom, but you know I'm right."

SOT, Boris Johnson, UK Prime Minister: "We in the UK can get to net-zero carbon by 2050. That's what we're going to do, and we're going to do it through technology as my friend [German Chancellor] Angela Merkel would say 'Vorsprung durch Technik' [advance through technology] that is how we're going to achieve it. And we are going to help the rest of the world to get there too, and I am very proud to announce here tonight, perhaps the most significant thing I am going to say at this UNGA, that the UK's contribution to tackling climate change through our overseas development funding is going to be doubled."

SOT, Boris Johnson, UK Prime Minister: "We are going to rise, increase our spending on tackling climate change to 11.6 billion pounds over the next 5 years, and that will help countries around the world to join us, to work together, in building resilience, tackling climate change in every single way, but above all, of course, in investing in new technology that can make all the difference."

"We, collectively, have to do better if we are going to avoid catastrophic climate change, loss of habitat, destruction of reefs, loss of forests, desertification, defoliage, acidification of the seas. Johnson then stated that he believes the UK can get to "net-zero carbon by 2050," and said he believed that investment in new, green technologies would be the way forward.
