10.02.2019
Hundreds of protesters took to the streets of Moscow for the 'March of Mothers' Rage' in support of female political prisoners on Sunday.
A minor scuffle broke out and a male rally-goer was led away by police.
Around 400 protesters took part, with focus particularly on the activist Anastasia Shevchenko, who was imprisoned for her work as Coordinator of the Open Russia Civic Movement in the port city of Rostov-on-Don.
Last month, Shevchenko became the first person to be charged with "repeated participation in the activities of an undesirable organisation," sparking outrage among human rights activists. She was temporarily released in order to visit her daughter in hospital before she died.
The pro-democracy Open Russia movement was founded by exiled Russian billionaire Mikhail Khodorkovsky.
