Thousands of Central American migrants passed through the southern Mexican city of Tapachula on Monday, as part of the migrant caravan that aims to reach the United States border despite opposition from US President Donald Trump.
Footage shows migrants, mostly from Honduras, walking through Tapachula and chanting "we are international workers, why are you killing us, why are you assassinating us if we are the hope of Latin America?"
On Monday, the Deputy Spokesperson for the Secretary-General of the United Nations Farhan Haq said some 7,233 persons are marching in the migrant caravan in Mexico, with many headed towards the US
The migrant caravan arrived on Mexico's southern border with Guatemala on Friday, fleeing poverty and violence.
On Monday US President Donald Trump called out the governments of Guatemala, Honduras and El Salvador for not stopping the migrant caravan, and announced on Twitter that the US would start reducing foreign aid funding sent to those countries, and threatened to close the border between the US and Mexico over the issue.
