Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev suggested that Thailand should consider joining a free trade zone with the Eurasian Economic Union, after a meeting with his Thai counterpart during a visit to Bangkok on Wednesday. In an interview with Suthichai Yoon, chairman of Nation Multimedia Group, Medvedev stated that he made the offer to Thai Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha, during a meeting over economic development between the two countries. Medvedev stated that it was a ‘good opportunity for Asian countries to grow in the Russian market, as his country is currently closed to imports from the EU’. The Russian prime minister also advised that Thailand ought to create an Asian free trade zone, like the EEU (Eurasian Economic Union), as it provides a ‘good opportunity to work’.
