Iran is ready to turn any country which attacks it into a battlefield, said an Iranian top military official on Saturday in Tehran, as tensions in the region continued to rise after Saudi Arabia and the US blamed Iran for recent drone attacks on Saudi oil facilities.
Speaking at the opening of an exhibition of US drones reportedly captured by Iran, the commander of Iran's Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), Hossein Salami, warned that "If any country wants to attack the Islamic Republic, it will see its territory turn into the conflict's main battlefield. We'll never let any war be dragged into Iran. We will continue until the end."
Salami took part in the ribbon-cutting ceremony at Tehran's Islamic Revolution and Holy Defence museum, where the remains of US drones that the Iranian military says it has downed and captured were unveiled.
Tensions between the Islamic Republic and the US increased further earlier in the week, as US President Donald Trump imposed fresh sanctions on the Central Bank of Iran and its National Development Fund, in response to the country's alleged involvement in the recent drone attacks.
