23.01.2016
Several hundred protesters took to the streets of central London on Saturday, to commemorate the fifth anniversary of the Egyptian uprising.
Predominately comprising London residents from the Egyptian diaspora, protesters marched from Marble Arch and finished the rally outside the Egyptian Embassy.
The demonstrators protested against perceived continued high levels of corruption in the country and demanded the release of Mohamed Morsi, who is still detained even after his 2013 overthrow.
The Egyptian uprising began on January 25, 2011 and saw widespread demonstrations, riots and civil disobedience strikes across the country over unemployment, government corruption and the long standing rule of President Hosni Mubarak who had been in power for three decades.
