Russian state owned company Rosatom started the construction of nuclear power plant Bushehr-2 in Iran on Saturday with the involvement of new safety system concept.
The construction of the nuclear power plant is implemented within Russia-Iranian cooperation and foresees erection of two new units of the nuclear power plant at the Bushehr site. The building up of the power plant will correspond with new project called “3+” which is certified by European Utilities Requirements (EUR). Energy units of the “3+” generation have improved technical and economic characteristics and meet the so-called post-Fukushima safety requirements.
Head of Rosatom Sergei Kirienko stressed that the project of the Bushehr-2 wouldn't undermine the international agreements Iran has entered into regarding the non-proliferation of nuclear weapons. Rather, he said, "it was drafted in such a way that it excluded even any discussion of non-peaceful uses."
Apart from Kirienko, the official launching ceremony was attended by President of the Atomstroyexport (ASE) Valeriy Limarenko and by the Iranian First Vice President Eshaq Jahangiri.
